The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently released a pamphlet titled “U Visa Immigration Relief for Victims of Certain Crimes: An Overview for Law Enforcement.” You may see the full document here.

The pamphlet is directed at law enforcement personnel and offers an overview of the U nonimmigrant category for victims of certain particularly serious crimes. In order for a crime victim to be eligible for U nonimmigrant status, he or she must procure what is called law enforcement certification. Although the document is directed at law enforcement, it provides general information about the U visa category for anyone who is interested.

Please see our full selection of articles that discuss U nonimmigrant category to learn about eligibility for U visa status, the application process (including law enforcement certification), the benefits of U status, and other issues related to the U nonimmigrant status [see category].
