The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that effective March 9, 2017, it is extending the validity of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) El Salvador for 6 months [link]. This automatic extension will last through September 9, 2017. Notice of the extension has been published in the Federal Register [see 82 FR 12629]. This means that if a national of El Salvador on TPS has an EAD that was issued under the TPS designation for El Salvador with a September 9, 2016 expiration date printed on the front of the EAD card, that EAD will now expire on September 9, 2017.

In order for a national of El Salvador with such an EAD who is seeking to work to establish eligibility for employment to the satisfaction of his or her employer, he or she may show both of the following:

The DHS announced the extension of the designation of El Salvador for TPS for a period of 18 months on July 8, 2016 [see article]. At that time, the DHS automatically extended the validity of EADs under El Salvador TPS for 6 months. The purpose of the extension then was to ensure that there were no gaps in work authorization for TPS beneficiaries from El Salvador on TPS who had properly applied for TPS-related EADs. The USCIS is once again automatically extending certain TPS-related EADs for Salvadorans for the same reason.
